The dynamics of the Russian car market in 2019

What will press stronger the Comtrans market: oil prices or the growth of scrapage fee?

The negative factors affecting the commercial vehicle market in Russia will change this year. This was announced by Viktor Pushkarev, deputy head of the analytics department of the AUTOSTAT agency, speaking at the XI forum “ForAuto-2021. Automotive market, results and forecasts”.

So, among them, such a traditional parameter as the price of oil has already disappeared that has shown the steady growth since the beginning of the year. At the same time, the upcoming increase in the rates of the scrappage fee by 25% will have a significant impact on the market, which will undoubtedly entail a further rise in prices for commercial vehicles.

Among the negative factors, experts also consider the economic sanctions of the US and the EU, the continued growth of exchange rates and prices, a decrease in income and consumer solvency, and the strengthening of SPIC requirements for localization.

Depending on the segment, these factors have a more or less serious impact, and for example, in the bus segment, their effect is almost completely leveled out by federal and regional government support programs. Due to this, the forecast for the market of new buses for 2021 presumes a “fork” from -8% (under the pessimistic scenario) to + 2% (under the optimistic scenario). In the LCV segment (light commercial vehicles), the market may show dynamics from -8% to 0%, in the MCV segment (medium-duty trucks) - from -6% to 0%, in the HCV (large-capacity) segment - from -6% to +2 %.
