Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles fell by 4.2% to 95,213 vehicles in Russia in January, according to data of the Association of European Businesses.

According to the AEB, after three months of significant growth, the market has been gradually shrinking since December 2020. The association expects that sales will grow in February and March and, according to the results of the first quarter, will reach the level of the previous year. According to the AEB forecast, by the end of 2021, 1 million 632 thousand passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold in Russia, which means a 2.1% market growth in compare with the preiovus year.

Leadership in the Russian car market is held by the LADA brand, the sales of which in January remained at the previous year's level and reached 21,857 cars. The second place in terms of sales volume is kept by KIA - sales of 15,051 vehicles (+ 1%) ensured the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. The third place is occupied by Hyundai with 10,949 sold cars, which is lower by 4% than a year ago.

This is followed by Renault - cars of this brand were chosen by 8,534 buyers (+ 3%). Skoda still finished the top five with 6036 sold cars (+ 2%). The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in January also included Volkswagen (5623 units, -10%), Toyota (5333 units, -17%), Nissan (3272 units, -34%), Mazda (2153 units, + 13%) and GAZ (2102 units, -18%).
