What do car owners use as an alternative to a private car?

As a part of the preparation of a new marketing report "Alternative to a personal car: the choice of Russian car owners", specialists of the agency "AUTOSTAT" and Auto Mail.ru conducted an online survey of more than 13 thousand respondents in the autumn, according to which it can be understood what they use as an alternative to a personal car. This survey was conducted among those owners who began to use their personal car less this year. They were asked the question: "What type of transport do you most often use as an alternative to a personal car?"

As it turned out, 37% of respondents use public transport. Slightly less of respondents use taxi services (30%). More than 15% of respondents have mastered the currently fashionable direction of car sharing. And those who decided to give up the car and just walk were about 12%. Other types of transport (bicycle, electric scooter, etc.) received much fewer votes - below the 3% mark.

Elena Bekhtina, General Director of Delimobil: - “The refusal of people from their own car towards rational consumption is becoming the mainstream of the modern car market. The self-belief that the car should be bought for a long time is changing. In addition, all economic models show that your own car is profitable only with high mileage, over 40 thousand km per a year. Until this threshold, car sharing or subscription is cheaper. Now, as the car-sharing fleet grows, the client can get a car available in just five or even less minutes, he can take it and drive from point A to point B. In addition, unlike owning his own car, car sharing allows you to test different models, which also seems more attractive and does not tie you to one brand or model. Although there will be always an audience for which it is important to have their own car, which you can equip for yourself, keep some things in the boot and be sure that your car will be in the state and place in which you left it. But with the development of a culture of sharing, people will be more responsible for their rented cars. And the fashion for smart consumption will greatly expand the per-minute rental and subscription market”
