Ministry of Industry and Trade has improved its forecast for car sales in Russia for 2020

Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation predicts a 10% fall in car sales in Russia by the end of 2020, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov said in an interview with TASS. Thus, the ministry improved its previous forecast - before the announcement of the September results, the ministry had expected sales to fall by 25-30% per a year. “For now, I can say that we can give a cautious forecast for the current year, that we see a tendency to end the year with a minus 10% in the market and an approximately 15-20% decline in production,” said the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The minister also recalled the positive dynamics of the car market in September and October (+ 3.4% and + 7%, respectively). “Let's see how we finish November, we also expect to keep this positive trend in December. If this continues, then I will be able to say with greater confidence that our industry is gradually recovering, and we can make forecasts for 2021,” added Denis Manturov. According to the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT", this year the volume of the Russian market of new passenger cars will be about 1.45 million units. Thus, in relation to 2019, the market decline will be in the range of 7-10%.

Recall that if you focus on the statistics of the AEB, then for 10 months the drop in sales of new cars is 12%. According to the experts of the AUTOSTAT agency, outstripping demand, which is taking place in the wake of rising prices and uncertainty in the future caused by the COVID-2019 pandemic, allows the situation to improve in general for the year.
