"IT Revolution in Auto Business 2020": subscription car. What are distributors saying?

At this stage of the development of the car market, not only the cars themselves are changing, but also the forms of their sales (and not only because of the coronavirus), as well as the very concept of “car ownership”. This was discussed during an online stream held as a part of the forum "IT Revolution in the Auto Business - 2020".

As for the “car by subscription” service, many of the brands have already launched it or are planning to launch it in the near future. So, for example, in 2021 Mobility is scheduled for launch at the Volkswagen brand. However, as representatives of the Russian office of the company explained, so far in a small volume. “We see more advantages in the development of private leasing,” explained Dmitry Maksimov. KIA, where the service was launched recently, on September 21st, is also not making big plans for the next year. “Subscription is in demand,” says Alexander Migal, “and so far we are wondering how it is going. And as demand develops, we will be able to accelerate implementation and development in a larger area. While the project is developing in seven cities of Russia - Moscow, St. Petersburg, Obninsk, Bryansk, Almetyevsk, Nizhnekamsk, Krasnoyarsk. At the same time, the manufacturer assumes the development of the format, some standardization, and the dealers do their part ... The advantage for customers is timely service, valid CTP and comprehensive insurance policies, no need to worry about reselling the car after some time, no need to think about collateral upon purchase, etc. ... ".

It is curious that the first manufacturers who launched Mobility in the Russian market have already completed a “full cycle”. During the online stream, representatives of Volvo, where the service was launched a year and a half ago, shared their results. Here, with the first lot of cars by subscription, we managed to go through all the stages of the project. “We have already taken these first cars and sold them through dealerships, and we have remained in positive territory, even a little more than we predicted,” said Oksana Getsova, the representative of VolvoCarRussia. - It was a wonderful experience, successful communication with clients. After driving for a year on our cars, about 74% of our customers decided to renew their subscription. For their convenience, we have made the replacement of cars - "keys to keys", that is, without a time delay. We still see that the product attracts customers from other brands to us. And we will develop this channel. Of course, it will not replace completely the purchase of a car, but it will exist in parallel with it and, I think, the share of cars by subscription will grow ... ”.
