What Japanese used cars are bought in Russia?

Among used cars, Russians give the greatest preference to Japanese brands. As the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" found out, for 9 months of 2020, the residents of our country bought 1,112,000 of these cars. 40% of all purchased "Japanese" used cars had the right hand drive. This is 444 thousand units.

Accordingly, the remaining 60% of used Japanese cars have a steering wheel on the left, which is equivalent to 668 thousand units. Right-hand drive cars came to us directly from the Land of the Rising Sun, so it is not surprising that 50% of all used cars of Japanese brands are bought in the Far East and Siberia. So, the residents of the Siberian Federal District from January to September purchased 303 thousand of these cars, and residents of the Far Eastern Federal District - 252 thousand. For comparison: the share of the Central Federal District was 16%, or 174 thousand units, and the Volga Federal District - 11%, or 119 thousand units.

Toyota is the leader in the brand rating, which accounts for almost 40% - for 9 months Russians bought 439 thousand used cars of this brand. Nissan has almost a twice less result - 20%, or 224 thousand cars. Mitsubishi's figure is four times lower (in comparison with Toyota) - 10%, or 116 thousand units. Honda (9%; 101 thousand units) and Mazda (8%; 88 thousand units) are also in the five most popular “Japanese” cars with mileage.
