Leaders and outsiders of the Russian automotive market in the first half of 2021

The Russian car market showed the growth again in September

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in September grew by 3.4% to 154,409 vehicles. According to the results of nine months of 2020, the Russian car market reached 1 million 094 thousand 805 cars (-13.9%), according to the data of the Association of European Businesses.

As the AEB notes, September is traditionally a good month for the automotive market. In addition to deferred demand and a weakening ruble, the decline in tourist activity and government support measures led to the market's growth. Hoping for a relatively stable situation in the fourth quarter and the absence of serious restrictions on business activity, despite the worsening epidemiological situation, the AEB improved its forecast for 2020, according to which 1.552 thousand cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold, which means a decrease of 13,5% in compare with the previous year.

Leadership in the Russian car market is held by LADA brand, the sales of which reached 35,264 cars in the last month (+ 12%). The second place in terms of sales volume is kept by KIA - the sale of 20,402 vehicles (+ 6%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai returned to the third line with 18,380 sold cars, which is higher by 15% than a year ago. Then Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 14,007 buyers (+ 5%). Volkswagen finished the top-5 this time, with 10,674 sold cars (+ 12%). The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in September also included Skoda (9616 units, + 31%), Toyota (8494 units, -10%), Nissan (5623 units, -24%), GAZ (4451 units, -26%) and UAZ (3805 units, + 7%).
