Zaporizhsk Automobile Plant will resume the production of LADA cars

AvtoVAZ resumed the shipment of LADA car kits to the Ukrainian ZAZ enterprise, which is organizing the assembly of Russian cars for the local market. According to the public AvtoVAZ News, at the moment, the Volga Automobile Plant supplies components for LADA Largus station wagons. In addition, at the end of June ZAZ received two bodies of the Granta sedan for pilot assembly. Thus, negotiations on the production of LADA cars at the Zaporizhsk Automobile Plant between the Ukrainian side and Renault were successful.

Recall that in March the first photos of LADA cars assembled at ZAZ appeared on the Internet. Almost all current models of the Russian brand will be on the conveyor: LADA Vesta and XRAY families, their off-road Cross-modifications, as well as Granta cars and Largus station wagons. Meanwhile, from January 1st, 2020, a ban on the import of finished cars of Russian production came into force in Ukraine. Thus, the decision to organize the assembly of LADA at ZAZ may be a way to circumvent this law. Until now, the only manufacturer of passenger cars in Ukraine was the Eurocar plant in Transcarpathia, where Skoda cars are produced.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, by the end of 2019, AVTOVAZ exported about 50 thousand LADA cars – higher by 32% in compare with the previous year. The main export markets for the Russian brand remain Belarus (16 thousand units, + 53%) and Kazakhstan (15 thousand units, + 14%), where LADA is the leader in sales. In addition, in the spring of 2019, AvtoVAZ entered the Mongolian market, and in November, the local production and sales of new generation LADA Granta cars in Egypt began.
