In St. Petersburg, a ceremony was held to begin the construction of the Russian engine plant Hyundai WIA. The company is located in close proximity to the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus car plant. The production line of the new enterprise will be launched in October of 2021. Investments in the construction of the engine plant will reach about 13.1 billion rubles, the press service of Hyundai Motor CIS informed.

The total area of the plant buildings exceeds 36 thousand square meters. The new enterprise will ensure the creation of more than 500 jobs. At the first stage of operation, Hyundai Via Rus plant plans to produce 240 thousand engines per a year, working in two production shifts. In the future, the capacity of the enterprise may increase up to 330 thousand engines per a year. At the plant equipped with high-tech equipment it will be the processing of main parts and assembly of them.

The main components that are planned to be localized in St. Petersburg are the cylinder block, cylinder head, and crankshaft. The plant will produce 1.6-liter Gamma I engines with a continuous variable valve timing system. The plant under construction will lay the foundation for the company to enter the engine market in Europe.
