Moscow will lose up to 800 billion rubles per a year due to the massive use of personal cars

The total negative socio-economic effect for Moscow and residents of the capital from the mass transfer of citizens to private cars will be 750-800 billion rubles per a year, said the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport, Maxim Liksutov. According to him, the active use of cars leads to many negative effects. In particular, the level of air pollution will return to its usual values, which are dangerous to human health, and it will even grow.

In addition, the transition of public transport passengers to the use of cars will lead to an increase in congestion on the roads of Moscow and an increase in the number of accidents, the Prime agency writes. According to the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, the largest regional fleet of cars is located in Moscow - as of January 1st, 2020, there were about 3.7 million units in the capital.

However, the provision of Muscovites with personal transport was lower than in Russia as a whole - 290 cars per 1000 inhabitants. Meanwhile, at the end of 2019, Muscovites bought almost 238 thousand new cars and more than 271 thousand used ones. Thus, 9 new cars in the Russian capital related to 10 used ones. Experts of the AUTOSTAT agency noted that this is the best ratio between the primary and secondary markets among all regions in the country.
