St. Petersburg Nissan plant is going to resume the production from May 18th

The Petersburg Nissan plant from May 18th plans to resume the production of cars in a two-shift mode. This was reported to the agency "AUTOSTAT" in the press service of Nissan, recalling that the work of the enterprise was suspended from March 30th pursuant to a decree of the President of Russia on additional measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“At the same time, we will monitor strictly the level of demand in the market, which, unfortunately, has not had time to recover due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this regard, we do not exclude the possibility of suspension of production at the plant in St. Petersburg in June, as a reaction to low demand and the ability to adjust warehouses. Another possible reason is the lack of components from European plants,” - Nissan press service informed.

As previously reported, St. Petersburg Nissan plant is going to dismiss about 450 people of 2,000 employees by August 2020 due to the transition to a single-shift regime. Recall that the productivity of the enterprise is 100 thousand cars per a year. The capacities of the plant, which currently produces Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano crossovers, allow the production of up to five different models simultaneously. At the end of 2019, Nissan's St. Petersburg plant produced 52,339 cars, which is lower by 7.4% in compare with the record year for the company in 2018.
