Ford in Russia: a story in numbers and facts
  • 04.04.19 Ford in Russia: a story in numbers and facts

On March 27th, it became officially known that Ford was changing its presence strategy in the Russian market: it turned off the production in the passenger car segment, by reserving only the LCV assembly (with the transfer of the Russian company Sollers after reorganization).

The decline in passenger car sales can be from 30% to 50% in the Russian Federation

According to the forecasts of experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", the market of new passenger cars in Russia may fall by 30 - 50% this year, depending on the development scenarios. This opinion was announced by the director of the agency, Sergey Tselikov, in the framework of the online conference "AUTOSTAT Analytic Day: forecast of the car market 2020 in conditions of uncertainty." By highlighting the main economic factors affecting the car market, Mr. Tselikov divided clearly them into two groups: before March’ 2020 and after.

The first group includes the cost of oil, the ruble exchange rate, the purchasing power of the population, the number of economically active people, car prices, and a number of others. In April, a factor related to the coronavirus pandemic was added, which entailed a restriction on the conduct of business activities and a ban on movement in space, closing the borders of regions and cities, breaking supply chains ... Given the fact that 1,63 million new cars were sold in Russia in 2019, with an optimistic development scenario, the market drop this year may reach 30%, and its volume could be 1.14 million units. In case of a pessimistic scenario, the market will fall by a half - to 0.82 million units. Also, one cannot exclude the average scenario, when sales of new passenger cars can reach 0.98 million units, by showing a 40% drop.
