If until 2016 they all belonged to the same brand - the domestic LADA, but now, for the last two years, foreign cars are the leaders on the Russian market.



What diesel cars do Russians drive? TOP-10 of brands


At the beginning of 2020, Russia registered 2.3 million passenger cars equipped with a diesel engine, which makes up 5.2% of the total fleet. This conclusion was reached by the experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" during the preparation of the report "The structure and forecast of the fleet of cars in Russia."

Toyota is the leader in the rating of such cars with a share of about 18%. So, as of January 1st of this year, 411 thousand diesel cars of this Japanese brand were registered in our country. The second place is occupied by the German manufacturer BMW, which has 210 thousand diesel cars. The third place belongs to the Japanese brand Mitsubishi with an indicator of 205 thousand units. Volkswagen (193 thousand units) and Nissan (147 thousand units) are the next in the ranking.

In addition to them, the TOP-10 of the most common diesel car brands in Russia included Land Rover (140 thousand units), Mercedes-Benz (137 thousand units), SsangYong (115 thousand units), KIA (104 thousand units) and Hyundai (98 thousand units).
