50 years later. How many, where and which LADA cars are in the Russian Federation?

April 19th, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the start of production of LADA brand cars in Russia (the former name is Zhiguli). On this day, in 1970, the first 6 VAZ-2101 sedans — the cars from which, in fact, the mass motorization of the population began in the country — left the assembly line of the Volga Automobile Plant in Togliatti. Just for 50 years, AvtoVAZ (the former Volga Automobile Plant) produced about 30 million cars.

Experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" in connection with such a significant event decided to bring a number of interesting facts. So, according to the agency, 14 million LADA cars (cars and LCVs, as of January 1st, 2020) were registered in Russia. This is almost every third car in the country! The most common family among them is the "classic" - there are 4.7 million units of such cars. Samara is the second one – the number of cars of this family (taking into account Samara-2) is 3.2 million units. The “2110” family (1.5 million units) also was into the top-3. Also, the millionth mark in the Russian fleet is also overcome by LADA 4x4 (1.2 million units), or Niva.

It is also worth noting that LADA 2107 is the leader in the ranking of models - at the beginning of the year, 1.7 million “2107” were registered in the Russian Federation. And this is the most common car in the country! The second position is occupied by the 2106 (1.4 million units), and the third – by the already mentioned Niva (1.2 million units). The average age of LADA cars, which are in Russia, exceeded 16 years. Moreover, more than 10% of this fleet is not older than 5 years (1.5 million units). And over 30% of VAZ cars were produced more than 20 years ago (4.4 million units). Interestingly, approximately every eighth car (1.8 million units) was produced back in Soviet times, i.e. until 1992.
