Volkswagen Group Rus will begin the gradual resumption of production at the plant in Kaluga in the week from April 27th, 2020. This was reported to the agency "AUTOSTAT" by the Volkswagen Group Rus press service, by noting that after the resumption of production at all production sites, measures will be taken to protect the health and comply with strict hygiene standards. “Nevertheless, in order to keep a sufficient level of production volumes, the work of dealerships with the implementation of all health protection measures required by state bodies should be allowed,” Volkswagen Group added.

According to the results of 2019, 214 thousand cars were produced at Volkswagen Group Rus production sites, which is higher by 7% than a year ago. So, in the previous year 150 thousand cars (+ 5%) were produced at the company's plant in Kaluga, 64 thousand cars (+ 13%) at the production site in Nizhny Novgorod. It is worth noting that in December of 2019, the production of the compact crossover Skoda Karoq by the full cycle method started at the GAZ facilities. Thus, Karoq became the third Skoda model in the assembly line of this enterprise after Octavia and Kodiaq.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, in the first half of 2020, Volkswagen Group Rus plans to begin the production and sales in Russia of the second-generation Skoda Rapid liftback, as well as the new Volkswagen Polo, which is now presented in the liftback body. In addition, in the fourth quarter, a new generation of Skoda Octavia will appear in the Russian market.
