AvtoVAZ changed the name of the former joint venture with General Motors

The former GM-AvtoVAZ CJSC was re-registered in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities on April 15th as JSC “LADA West Togliatti”. The new name reflects that the company belonged to AvtoVAZ Group and it is in the logic of naming of 100% subsidiaries of the Group, the automaker’s press service informed. Recall that GM-AvtoVAZ company was opened in 2002, the main model is the Niva SUV, which was developed at AvtoVAZ and will be integrated into the LADA lineup in 2020.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, on December 9th, 2019, AvtoVAZ signed an agreement with General Motors on the repurchase of a 50% stake in Togliatti JV GM-AvtoVAZ from an American company. As a result of the transaction, the joint venture became a 100% affiliate of AvtoVAZ Group. The parties did not disclose the financial details of the transaction. As a part of the agreement, in 2020, Niva SUV will be integrated into the LADA lineup. So, from February of 2020, AvtoVAZ began the sales of Niva SUVs in some official LADA dealerships.

Thus, from 2020, AvtoVAZ will simultaneously produce two off-road vehicles at once: LADA Niva and classic LADA 4x4. Currently, the further price positioning of LADA Niva is being discussed. In 2020, the export of Niva SUVs to five CIS countries continues: Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia. We also add that in December of 2018, GM-AVTOVAZ received a new Type approval of a vehicle for the Niva model, which is valid until December of 2021 with the possibility of renewal. Meanwhile, in February of 2018, it became known that GM-AvtoVAZ stopped the work on a new generation of Chevrolet Niva project, the mass production of which was originally supposed to begin in December of 2015.
