The Bank of Russia has expanded the list of industries affected by the coronavirus pandemic and to which regulatory exemptions will be applied in case of banks lending, the head of the Central Bank Elvira Nabiullina said. The expanded list, in particular, includes the production, trade, maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, as well as related household services.

Thus, the autoretail is officially recognized as an industry that has been hit hard by the effects of the spread of coronavirus. Thanks to this, companies operating in these areas may, until September 30th, apply to banks with a request to suspend their obligations under loan agreements. According to Elvira Nabiullina, depending on the development of the situation, the duration of regulatory relief can be extended.

According to Vladimir Miroshnikov, Rolf’s development director, the revenues of all players fell sharply during the period of the self-isolation regime, and the costs remained high. The business requires large borrowed funds. In addition to costs, dealers are highly dependent on the economic situation and consumer demand. Further development of the situation will depend on how soon dealers are allowed to resume the work, as well as what measures will be offered by the government to the industry, how demand will be stimulated.

According to the analytic agency AUTOSTAT, as of January 2020, there were 3370 official dealer centers for the sale and maintenance of cars in Russia. At the same time, for the last year their number fell by 80 (there were 3450 dealers in January of 2019).
