Toyota plant plans to resume the work in early May in St. Petersburg


Japanese automaker Toyota in the near future plans to resume partially the interrupted production due to coronavirus in some of its plants in Europe, as well as in Russia. So, from April 22nd, the production at a plant in France will partially recover, from April 23rd - at a plant in Poland, reported the TASS news agency. Partial restoration of the plant in St. Petersburg is scheduled for May 6th. From May 4th, it is planned to resume the work of enterprises in the UK, Czech Republic and Turkey.

The decision for each individual plant was made based on the situation with coronavirus in a particular country. The suspension of Toyota plants in Venezuela was extended until the end of May, and in South Africa until the end of April. The company also does not plan to resume the work of its enterprises in Brazil at least until June of this year.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, by the end of 2019, the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg increased the production by 1.5% to 74.8 thousand Camry business sedans and crossovers RAV4, which was the best result in the history of the enterprise. It is worth noting that in October of the previous year in St. Petersburg, the fifth-generation of Toyota RAV4 crossover made on the innovative architecture platform TNGA was launched. Technological changes of the new Toyota RAV4 required a significant change in the manufacturing process. Investments in the modernization of workshops for the project were 4.8 billion rubles (as of September of 2019). For the whole history of the Toyota plant in St. Petersburg, more than 30 billion rubles have been invested in the development of production.
