Car sales grew by 4% in Russia in March

After the February fall, sales of cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 4% to 162,321 units in Russia in March. According to the results of the 1st quarter of 2020, their sales volume reached 398,518 vehicles (+ 1.8%), according to the Association of European Businesses.

As noted in AEB, the current market situation does not reflect the real trend, but rather, it is connected with the expected sales growth in March due to the weakening of the currency. At the end of March, car sales and dealership operations were abruptly interrupted due to measures related to the situation with COVID-19.

The leadership in the Russian car market is held by AvtoVAZ, which sold 32,808 LADA cars (-3%) in the previous month. KIA took the second place in terms of sales - the sale of 19,808 cars (+ 1%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai keeps the third place with 15,813 sold cars, which is lower by 3% than a year before. Then Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 13,640 buyers (+ 5%). Toyota finished the top-5; its sales reached 12,857 cars (+ 36%). According to the results of March, the TOP-10 of the best-selling brands also included Volkswagen (10007 units, + 17%), Skoda (9856 units, + 42%), Nissan (7562 units, -7%), GAZ (4713 units, -5%) and Mercedes-Benz (4427 units, + 33%).
