In Russia, customs duties on the import of electric vehicles will be canceled

5.jpg

The ECE Council announced the entry into force on April 15th, 2020 of a new rule on the abolition of customs duties on imported cars with a fully electric power plant. The new decree will be valid until December 31st, 2021.

Zeroing will affect new and used electric vehicles, and will also apply to all countries that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union - they are Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

According to experts, since now there is no large-scale production of electric cars on the territory of the Eurasian Union, such a solution will lead to lower prices and higher demand for electric cars, and will also contribute to the development of charging infrastructure. It is worth noting that in 2014 and 2016, the EEC already tried to attract electric cars to the Russian market. But then only legal entities received benefits, so it did not lead to an increase in the number of electric vehicles in the country.

Now companies have to pay for the import of electric vehicles 15% of the cost. This time, in addition to organizations, the innovation will also affect individuals who today are required to pay a fee of 48-54% of the cost of the car. At present, four electric cars can be officially bought in Russia: Renault Twizy, the price of which starts at 949 thousand rubles, BMW i3 at a price of 3 million 840 thousand rubles, Jaguar I-Pace, the minimum cost of which is 6 million 246 thousand rubles, and also a luxury Porsche Taycan, the price of which starts from 7 million 793 thousand rubles.
