Demand for KAMAZ trucks grew due to coronavirus

Demand for KAMAZ trucks has grown in Russia, and the automaker directly links it to the coronavirus. "There is a recovery in demand in Russia - the effect of the coronavirus is affecting, import pressure is decreasing," - said the CEO of KAMAZ, Sergey Kogogin.

At the same time, the top manager did not provide accurate data about the sales growth, citing the fact that they will arrive later. At the same time, coronavirus may adversely affect the production plan of KAMAZ. Suppliers of electronic devices are likely to have a problem in April, related, in its turn, to a shortage of components from China.

And according to Mr. Kogogin, even the spread stopping of the disease is not able to correct this situation. "When the period of lifting quarantine restrictions in China comes, filling all supply chains will not be easy - it cannot happen today or tomorrow," - said the head of KAMAZ. And he explained that the Chinese authorities are likely to take priority measures to provide local factories, and only then - foreign ones.

As a result, on April 20th, KAMAZ may switch to part-time work, and then revise the production plans for 2020. At the same time, the company cannot change quickly the suppliers, although it is trying to hedge itself against a crisis. “Validation of a new supplier usually takes from a year to two years - fortunately, we have a double on many lines and today we are starting to see that something is looming,” - Mr. Kogogin said.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, KAMAZ provided itself with components for the first quarter of 2020, and the situation in April will depend on the terms of the launch of auto component manufacturers in China.
