St. Petersburg car plants began 2020 year with a production drop

According to the agency Auto-Dealer-SPb, in January of 2020 St. Petersburg car plants Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota produced 27.5 thousand cars, which is 5% lower than a year ago. Thus, the volume of production at the enterprises of the St. Petersburg car industry in the first month of the year fell for the first time in 4 years.

Nevertheless, the share of the St. Petersburg car industry in the total Russian production of passenger cars has increased markedly. According to the results of January of 2020, it was 29.2% against 24.8% a year before.

Recall, according to the Federal State Statistics Service, 94.1 thousand cars left the Russian conveyors in the previous month - 16.5% lower than a year before. “In comparison with the all-Russian production volume, the St. Petersburg car industry started the year quite positively,” - says Mikhail Chaplygin, the CEO of Auto-Dealer-SPb. - In February and March, it will not be clear the scenario, by which the local production will develop. External factors reappeared that have an impact on the Russian economy, and, in particular, on the production of cars of foreign brands. One of the consequences of this is a possible stop in March due to a lack of components at Nissan's plant. ”

Recall that at the St. Petersburg plant Nissan previously stated the risk of suspension of production due to possible delays in the supply of components from China. However, to date, it is not planned the production shutdown at this enterprise.
