20 years later: who owns the Russian car market?

LADA Vesta entered the TOP of the most popular models of Moscow in January

In the first month of the year, LADA Vesta was among the top-10 of the bestselling new cars in the market in Moscow. We should note that this happened for the first time during a rather long period. So, throughout 2019, the capital TOP-10 included only foreign cars. In January of 2020, the domestic Vesta, sales of which in this market reached 317 units, was the 9th one in the rating.

Experts also noted that the leader of the metropolitan rating in 2019 – Volkswagen Polo - was only the eighth one in January. According to the data of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, the first three lines of the rating in the market of new cars in Moscow were occupied by the Korean three cars - KIA Rio, Hyundai Solaris and Hyundai Creta. In January, 693 residents of the capital became the owners of KIA Rio, which is higher by 7.3% than in January of 2019. Sales of Solaris reached 645 units (+ 64.5% in compare with the previous year), Creta - 543 units (+ 15.8%).

Three “Japanese” follow in the ranking: Nissan X-Trail (413 units; + 27.5%), Toyota Camry (397 units; + 12.1%) and Nissan Qashqai (393 units; + 66.5%). The top-10 also included Volkswagen Tiguan (371 units; + 17.4%), the previously mentioned Volkswagen Polo (333 units; -43.9%) and LADA Vesta (317 units; + 66%), and Skoda Octavia (316 units; -21%) finished the top-10 of the best-selling models in January. We should note that the most of the models from top-10 (8 out of 10) show the positive dynamics, and three of them (Hyundai Solaris, Nissan Qashqai and LADA Vesta) have more than 1.5 times growth.
