Leaders of the car market in the 1st quarter of 2018

The Russian car market grew by 2% in January

Sales of cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 1.8% to 102,102 cars in Russia in January of 2020, according to the Association of European Businesses. As noted in AEB, this is a good start of the new year, the expectations of which were quite pessimistic. January sales are traditionally the lowest in the year, so we have to wait and see what the trend will be in the months with higher sales - in February and especially in March.

Recall, according to the AEB forecast, according to the results of 2020, sales of passenger and light commercial vehicles in Russia will continue to fall, reaching 1.72 million units - 2.1% lower than in the previous year.

The leadership in the Russian car market is held by AvtoVAZ, which sold 21,790 LADA cars (+ 1%) in the previous month. KIA is the second one in terms of sales – the sale of 14,955 cars (-5%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the market of foreign cars. Hyundai is the third one with 11,395 sold cars, which is 5% higher than a year ago. Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 8,293 customers (+ 6%). Toyota finished the top-5, with 6405 sold cars (+ 20%).

The top-10 of best-selling brands in January also included Volkswagen (6,269 units, + 1%), Skoda (5,945 units, + 7%), Nissan (4,938 units, -1%), Mercedes-Benz (2,640 units, + 5%) and GAZ (2,568 units, -1%).
