In October the British car market grew by 2.6%

The British car market has grown for the second time this year – in October the growth was 2.6% up to 134,944 cars. According to SMMT, the result in October exceeded the forecast by 7%, however it was almost 20% less than for the same month of pre-crisis 2007. According to SMMT evaluation, in October the dealers sold about 7% of the annual car number in 2011. 

During ten months of 2011 car dealers in Great Britain sold 1,688,038 cars – that is 4.5% less, than a year ago. According to SMMT forecast the total car sales in 2011 will come up to 1.93 million cars (-5% as compared to the previous year). The recovery of the British car market will start in 2012, when it will come up to 1.96 million cars.

According to the information got by AUTOSTAT in SMMT, the absolute leader in the British car market in September is Ford, which sold 18,476 cars (+13%). The second place belongs to British Vauxhall, whose sales remained at the last year level of 16,008 cars (+0.2%). The third place in the rating of the best selling brands in Great Britain was taken by Volkswagen with12,106 cars sold (-5.5%). Two German premium-class brands BMW (8,985 cars, -10.5%) and Audi (7,577 cars, +14.5%) are on the fourth and the fifth places respectively.
