The global car market fell by 4.4% to 90 million 266 thousand cars and light commercial vehicles in 2019, according to data obtained by the AUTOSTAT agency in the consulting company LMC Automotive.

China remains the world leader by car sales, there were sold 25 million 447 thousand cars in the previous year (-8.3%). Thus, the negative dynamics is recorded for the second year in a row, which is due, in particular, to the inhibition of economic growth and trade disputes with the United States.

America remains the second largest car market in the world with 16 million 990 thousand cars, which is 1.4% lower than a year ago. The car markets of Western Europe in 2019 remained almost the same and reached 16 million 285 thousand cars (+ 0.8%). But car sales in Eastern Europe fell by 2.7% to 4 million 115 thousand units.

It is worth noting that the Russian car market showed a decrease of 2.3% in the previous year and a similar dynamics of sales is expected in 2020. In South America, local dealers sold 3 million 105 thousand cars, which is 4.4% lower than in 2018. Among the world's largest car markets, it is also worth mentioning Japan (5 million 129 thousand units, -1.4%), Canada (1 million 924 thousand units, -3.4%) and Korea (1 million 749 thousand units, -1.6%).
