Dealers predict a further drop in demand for cars in 2020

Despite the action of the state programs “First / Family Car”, the Russian car market in the outgoing year showed a decline after almost two years of growth. According to forecasts of dealers surveyed by the AUTOSTAT agency, the demand for new cars will continue to decline in 2020.

According to the Director of development “ROLF”, Vladimir Miroshnikov, if the government is not ready to offer any additional incentives to the automotive industry besides the already announced continuation of the First Car and Family Car programs with a limit of up to a million rubles, then the market decline can speed up. In this case, according to the results of 2020, the Russian car market may fall by 8-10%.

“I believe that 2020 will be a turning point for many dealers, as it becomes more and more difficult to keep the efficiency and profitability of a business each time. Car prices will continue to grow, not only because of the traditional renewal of the model range, the annual inflationary increase in the price list, but also because of the growth of the rate of recycling fee, so we should definitely not expect sales growth in the car market in such conditions. Our forecast for the coming year is -10%, a negative trend will continue,”- comments Alexei Gulyaev, Operations Director of Avilon AG.

Alexander Zakharov, the head of the key customer service department at AvtoSpetsTsentr Group of Companies, noted that the increase in prices for new cars in 2020, associated with the growing recycling fees and inflation, will not be as significant as it was in the previous year in connection with VAT increase, and it will be + 5-10% depending on the brand. The auto segment will also play its role: the mass one will rise in price less, premium - more, as well as localization.
