Moscow shared its experience of electric buses operating at the International Forum in Brussels

The development of electric transport in cities has become one of the main topics of discussion at the conference of the International Union of Public Transport (UITP) in Brussels.

This year, the participants of the Russian delegation generously shared their decisions in the field of ecological transport. Mosgortrans, which has been a member of UITP for about fifty years, had something to tell colleagues that had come to Belgium from all over the world.

Electric buses appeared on the roads of Moscow a year ago (on September 1st, 2018), however, as Leonid Antonov, General Director of Mosgortrans State Unitary Enterprise, noted, today the capital of Russia has managed to become "the European leader in the number of electric buses in one city." “Such major international event is a great opportunity for us to exchange experience with foreign colleagues and share our decisions in the field of environmentally friendly transport,” said Mr. Antonov. “Already today Moscow is the European leader by the number of electric buses in one city: over 220 electric buses run on the capital's routes every day,” - said Mr. Antonov. He also informed his colleagues that by the end of 2019, the number of electric buses in Moscow should be increased to 300, and in 2020, other 300 units are scheduled to be delivered.

Electric buses and charging stations in Moscow are delivered by Russian manufacturers - KAMAZ and GAZ. The contracts with them are arranged in such a way that the supplier is responsible for the full functionality of the rolling stock and charging infrastructure for 15 years.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, KAMAZ and GAZ Group have developed and implemented electric buses that can compete with world-leading analogues. The state, for its part, in the framework of the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation in 2018 - 2020, has planned funds to subsidize manufacturers of urban electric ground transport, which provided a discount to customers in the amount of 1.5 billion rubles per a year.

As for the technical characteristics of the capital's electric buses, the cabin includes 85 passengers, has 30 seats and is equipped with everything necessary for comfortable travel for all passengers, including those with limited mobility. Electric buses have a low floor level, are equipped with climate control and video surveillance systems, media screens with routing information, USB slots for charging mobile devices.
