How has Russian vehicle fleet changed for 10 years?

St. Petersburg auto industry fell by 15% in September

According to the agency Auto-Dealer-SPb, in January-September of 2019, St. Petersburg car plants Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota produced 273.3 thousand cars, which is 1% higher than in the same period of last year. In September, car production decreased by 15%, reached 28.8 thousand cars.

This is the strongest drop in production for one month, since December’16. And the overall output result is even worse than the January figure of 2019, when plants traditionally only work for 2/3 months. “A serious reduction in production in September is not only the effect of a high base a year ago, but also a reaction to the state of the Russian car market.

For example, demand for such volume-forming models as KIA Rio and Hyundai Solaris continues to decline. In addition, in September, Toyota RAV4 sales more than halved. This is due to the start of production of a new generation of this model in October,”- said Mikhail Chaplygin, CEO of Auto-Dealer-SPb. Recall that at the end of September Toyota plant in St. Petersburg completed the production of the fourth-generation Toyota RAV4 crossover, which was replaced by the new Toyota RAV4 from October 1st.

According to the results of 9 months of 2019, St. Petersburg Hyundai plant occupies 66% of the total car production in the city. So, 180.3 thousand cars left the assembly line, which is 1% higher than the figure for the same period of last year. In compare with the half-year results, Toyota slightly decreased its share, while Nissan increased it. So, at the Nissan plant in St. Petersburg in the reporting period, 39,825 crossovers Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano were produced. The share of St. Petersburg auto industry in relation to the all-Russian volume of car production in January-September reached 24.8% (a year ago - 24.7%).

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, in the first 9 months of 2019, 1.1 million passenger cars lest Russian conveyors - an increase of 1.1% in compare with the same period of last year. According to the Federal State Statistics Service, in September about 100 thousand cars were produced, which is 0.6% lower than a year ago.
