Subaru shuts down its plant in Japan because of typhoon

Japanese carmaker Subaru on Wednesday stopped the operation of its only plant in Japan, which is located in the city of Ota (central Gumma prefecture) due to the need to establish the production after the typhoon Hagibis.

According to the TASS agency, cause of bad weather, the supply of automotive components for assembly in the conveyor was disrupted. According to preliminary forecasts, the work of the enterprise will be resumed as usual no earlier than October 25th. The plant in Gumma Prefecture produces about 60% of all Subaru cars. About 650 thousand cars are assembled in it per a year.

Recall, “Hagibis” hit the northeast of the main island of Honshu on October 12th and affected the prefectures of Fukushima, Miyagi and Kanagawa. As a result of the destructive actions of the typhoon, 75 people died, 220 were injured and other 11 people were reported missing.

Among the enterprises that temporarily suspended their work due to bad weather, there are the largest electrical corporations Toyota Industries, Hirose Electric Co., Anritsu, Alps Alpine and Taiyo Yuden. The train service was also completely stopped and Tokyo Haneda Airport was closed.
