Volkswagen plant in Kaluga increased its production by 20%

During nine months of 2011 Volkswagen Group Rus plant in Kaluga produced 88,406 cars, the enterprise’s press service informed AUTOSTAT agency. According ASM-Holding, from January till September 2010 Volkswagen plant in Russia assembled 73,195 cars. Thus, the growth of production came up to 20.8% this year. 

At that, during nine months of 2011 Volkswagen plant in Kaluga produced 81,634 Volkswagen Polo sedans, Tiguan, as well as Skoda Octavia and Fabia cars with CKD method. Moreover, 6,772 VW Multivan and Touareg cars were produced with SKD method.

Volkswagen plant in Kaluga is planning to assemble over 120,000 cars in 2011 – that is about 26% more than a year ago (over 95,000 cars). We should remind that at the end of August the enterprise reached its full production capacity under three-shift regime, and the plant’s productivity came up to 150,000 cars per year.

At the end of May Volkswagen Group Rus signed additional agreement with Ministry of economic development. According to this agreement the company has to extend its production facilities in Russia up to 300,000 cars per year. Volkswagen intends to extend capacity of its Kaluga plant up to 200,000 cars per year. At the same time in June 2011 Volkswagen Group Rus and GAZ Group signed agreement about production of 110,000 passenger cars. The Gorky car plant is planning to start production of three models by 2013 – the Skoda Yeti, the Volkswagen Jetta and the Skoda Octavia. GAZ will reach production capacity of 110,000 cars per year in 2015. €200 million are planned to be invested in production organization. As for model lineup of VW plant in Kaluga, the enterprise will produce the Volkswagen Polo sedan and the Tiguan, as well as the Skoda Fabia and the Octavia. At that production of the last model will be shifted from Kaluga to the Gorky car plant in 2013. As Pyotr Yaneba, manager of Skoda in Russia informed, in 2013 the Kaluga plant should get the new Skoda model, which was introduced during motor show in Frankfurt as the MissionL. At that production of the Fabia in Russia is expected to be stopped.
