Russia celebrated Engineering Day

On September 29th, Russia celebrated Engineering Day. In connection with this date, the experts of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" decided to recall a few figures and facts related to the history of automobile production in our country.

Let’s note that 50 years ago, it was produced twice less of cars in Russia. So, in 1969 the volume of cars, trucks and buses produced in the country reached only 844 thousand units (in 2018 - over 1.7 million units). The domestic automakers overcame the mark of a million vehicles in 1971, and already in 1976, the production  overcame the mark of 2 million.

After the collapse of the USSR, the Russian auto industry had to go through a very severe and, one might say, extreme stage of development. The market economy began to give it new tasks that needed solutions, while being able to change it qualitatively and quantitatively. So, today more than 30 enterprises are engaged in the assembly of automotive equipment in the Russian Federation, among which there are almost all the world's leading manufacturers. Some of them were closed (GM in St. Petersburg, Derways in Cherkessk), while other plants are opened (this year, the production of Haval in Tula and Mercedes-Benz in the Moscow region).

The most successful in the history of automotive industry in Russia was 2012, when a record number of vehicles were assembled at the country's enterprises - 2.2 million units. The same year there was a record for the production of cars (almost 2 million units). By the way, it was in that year when the Russian market was at the peak of its development ...

As for the production of trucks and buses, the record was set back in 1989 - 821 thousand and 93 thousand units, respectively.

For comparison: in 2018, these indicators were 166 thousand and 48 thousand units. Also we should note that for 8 months of this year, over 1.1 million vehicles were produced at the enterprises of our country.
