St. Petersburg car industry showed a fall in August

According to the agency Auto-Dealer-SPb, for 8 months of 2019, St. Petersburg car plants Hyundai, Nissan and Toyota produced 244.5 thousand cars, which is 3% higher than the figure for the same period of the previous year. In August, for the second time in a year (after May), a production decline was noted by the results of one month. The enterprises of the St. Petersburg car industry produced 30.9 thousand cars - 3% lower than the previous year.

“In August, the collective holidays at the enterprises continued, and the pause at the Toyota plant, where this year the highest growth in production, affected the negative dynamics,” - notes Mikhail Chaplygin, Auto-Dealer-SPb CEO. - In autumn, the general situation in the Russian car market will affect the issue of cars. Among the three St. Petersburg plants, the strongest drop in domestic demand has been observed for Hyundai plant products. Moreover, all three models produced at the enterprise are in the TOP-5 by popularity in Russia.”

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, Toyota plant in St. Petersburg will stop the production of the fourth-generation Toyota RAV4 crossover in October. Instead, all-new Toyota RAV4, built on the TNGA innovative architecture platform, will be on the assembly line. The car will receive a completely new off-road design, increased dimensions, improved geometric cross-country ability, a more rigid body structure, a lower center of gravity and improved handling.

The share of St. Petersburg car industry in relation to the all-Russian volume of car production in January-August reached 24.2% against 23.9% the previous year. According to the Federal State Statistics Service, for 8 months of 2019, 1 million 010 thousand passenger cars left the Russian conveyors - this is 1.3% higher than for the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, in August, 116 thousand cars were produced, which is 3% lower than the previous year.
