During nine months St. Petersburg car market grew almost 1.5 times

According to Auto-Dealer-SPb, during nine months of 2011, dealers in St. Petersburg sold 136,927 new passenger cars – that is 47% or 43,575 cars more than for the same period of the previous year. In September 17,472 passenger cars were sold in the city, that is 32% more than a year ago. In September Volkswagen became the sales leader for the first time this year. 

“Summer slackness in St. Petersburg market is over, the sales in September reached the level of May and June, when over 17,000 cars were sold in the city, - director of Auto-Dealer-SPb Mikhail Chaplygin says. - We expect that in the fourth quarter the dealers in St. Petersburg will sell not less than 18,000 cars per month. Thus, according to our estimation, 190,000 – 200,000 new passenger cars will be sold in the city in 2011, that is 40-45% more than in 2010.

The sales decrease in July and August affected the total result of the third quarter (47,918 cars sold). Car sales of this period were less than in the II quarter (50,047 cars), and much more than in the I quarter (35,234 cars).

From January till September Lada is still the leader in the St. Petersburg market, however the sales growth dynamics of this brand is the worst in TOP-10 as per the results of three quarters. In September the decreased in the domestic brand’s sales, which started this July, continued to decrease. Chevrolet and Nissan, which had already taken the lead over Lada in some months, continue to decrease the gap between them and Lada in the market of the city.

At that in September Volkswagen, which increased its sales in the first Autumn month more than twice as compared to September 2010, became the sales leader, having left behind three favorites, including Lada. It is remarkable, that before August, when it took the third place, the German brand was not even included in TOP-3 leaders in St. Petersburg car market.
