Every fourth Russian will have a car

According to AUTOSTAT analytic department, by the end of 2011 automobilization in Russia will have reached 250 cars per 1,000 people. I.e. every fourth inhabitant of our country, including infants, will have a car. At that if to consider automobilization of families, the raiting is even higher – about 50% of Russian families have a car. At that, 10-15% of families have 2 and more cars.

Director of AUTOSTAT agency, Sergey Tselikov says, that automobilization in Russia is twice less than in European countries. Today there are 480 cars per 1,000 people in Europe and this index exceeds 600 cars in highly developed countries. According to Sergey Tselikov, in such countries as Germany, France or Italy automobilization level was equal to the current Russian one in the mid 1970s.

The paradox is that the level of automobilization is still less than in Europe – 330-350 cars per 1,000 people even in large Russian cities (Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Samara, etc.), where daily traffic jams almost paralyze the traffic. At that car parcs are continuing to increase. “If the current automobilization growth rates continue, in 2020 there will be at the average 350-360 cars per 1,000 people in Russia, and in megalopolises this index will come up to 500 cars... If by that time the traffic in these cities does not stop in the endless traffic jams completely”, - Sergey Tselikov says.
