GAZ may have a four-day work week in autumn

1.jpg

The management of the GAZ Group, together with the trade union committee, informed employees about the transition from October 21st to a four-day working week - "due to restrictions on production activities under the conditions of anti-Russian sanctions of the US government, problems with the supply of imported components ..., worsening situation in the commercial vehicle market...". This was reported by the news agency "In the City of N", referring to the text of the notice available to the publisher.

The document says that work in such a reduced workweek is planned at the enterprise until April 20th, 2020. However, according to experts, as the market or political situation changes, the declared period may change either way. In addition, as the company’s press service commented on the agency, so far even a notification sent to employees is a preventive measure ...

As Kommersant explains, Oleg Deripaska and his key assets, including the GAZ group, were sanctioned by the US Treasury that close the access to the country's financial system and business with its citizens, April 6th, 2018. The deadline for the entry into force of sanctions against GAZ was postponed to November 8th, 2019. One of the problems associated with the sanctions may be the restriction of the supply of components to GAZ. As for the “deterioration in the commercial vehicle market”, according to the data of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, by the results of 7 months 2019, this market showed a decrease of 5.5% in the LCV segment (in which the GAZ brand has a 45% share).

According to the results of January-July, in the truck segment, it was “minus” 4.6% (the share of GAZ is 10.6% here). The transition of GAZ to a shorter working week will help to avoid a reduction in the number of personnel and ensure stable workload of the enterprise. At the same time, they plan to pay in proportion to the worked time - obviously, it will decrease for those who worked outside the piecework wage system.
