During the working visit of the Acting Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov to the Toyota Motor plant, there were announced some details of the SPIC, concluded on June 28th between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, St. Petersburg and Toyota Motor LLC. In particular, we are talking about the fact that Toyota plans to invest 20 billion rubles in the development of the St. Petersburg enterprise over 10 years. Modernization of existing facilities should lead to an increase in the production volume of Toyota Camry and Toyota RAV4 models.

According to the press service of the governor, over 12 years, the plant’s capacity has increased 2 times, and the production - almost 12 times. Since the opening in 2007, more than 350 thousand cars have been produced at the St. Petersburg plant of the company. In the course of the upcoming modernization and development of production only within the framework of the SPIC, it is expected to receive about 5 billion rubles in the form of tax fees to the city budget.

Alexander Beglov emphasized that the city is actively developing “smart investments”, which imply the development of high-tech and well-paid jobs at St. Petersburg enterprises.

Note that both models, in the production updating of which Japanese company plans to invest, are in the TOP-25 of the best-selling in the Russian market. So, according to AEB, Toyota Camry sales in January – July’19 reached 19,207 cars (+ 11.4% compared with APPG). As for RAV4, the figure is 16,637 units (+ 1.2%).
