Skoda plant assembled the 10 millionth car


Yesterday Skoda plant in Mlada-Boleslava assembled the 10 millionth car – it was white Fabia Monte Carlo. The production anniversary marked another important part of carmaker’s history. Only during the last 20 years Skoda managed to increase its production all over the world four times. Since 1991 the brand’s model lineup has extended from one model to seven model series. Today the brand is represented in more than 100 markets, however it used to be concentrated mostly in the Czech Republic and Europe.

According to the growth strategy, Skoda model lineup will be significantly extended during the nearest years. During 2-3 years Skoda will introduce a new car every half year. During motor show in Frankfurt in 2011 the Czech carmaker introduced the Mission L concept car, which perfectly demonstrates the new compact sedan. Soon after that the Citigo new compact city car was introduced in Mlada-Boleslava. The new compact sedan Citigo and other brand-news will favour the growth of the company in the nearest future.

“We are starting a new stage of development. We see a large potential in developing countries, such as Russia, China and India. However we will not stop and will continue to strengthen our position in the traditional European markets, - Winfried Vahland, chairman of Skoda board of directors, said. – Till 2018 the brand intends to increase sales as minimum two times up to 1.5 million cars per year. Skoda extends its production facilities all over the world for this purpose. Particularly in the Czech Republic the production is extended at the plants in Mlada-Boleslava and Kvasiny. The production extention is also planned out of the Czech Republic, particularly in Russia and China. At the end of 2012 together with Volkswagen Shanghai subdivision the company will start production of the new compact sedan and the Yeti compact SUV (from 2013) in China. The production of the Skoda Rapid compact sedan has already been started in India. At the end of 2011 GAZ Group at the plant in Nizhniy Novgorod will start production of the Yeti in Russia.
