Sales of LADA 4x4 SUVs will be continued in Germany


AvtoVAZ left the European market in April due to tougher environmental regulations. But it is planned to continue the sales of LADA 4x4 SUVs in Germany and a way to do it was even found.

The importer of LADA in Germany still keeps a thousand units of the three-door LADA 4x4 SUVs in stock, said Max Schmidt, LADA Germany sales director. The company is going to develop independently the cars in order to be able to offer a model in 2020. Moreover, the importer is registered as an independent manufacturer in Germany. However, after completion, the SUV may lose its price attractiveness, because now it costs 11,990 Euros in an export version with protection against corrosion, whereas the Urban version costs 13290 Euros. In addition, there is a five-door, more spacious version of the car, more expensive by 1500 Euros.

If the manufacturer, in violation of the emission standards, releases the car to the market, it will have to pay a penalty for harming the environment. And for LADA 4x4, according to Mr. Schmidt, it will amount to “incredible” 6,400 Euros for each sold car. 

Currently, the SUV is WLTP certified at a rate of 9.8 liters per 100 km. This value, which can be easily reduced, corresponds to a CO2 emission of 226 grams per kilometer.

However, experts suspect another reason for AVTOVAZ’s withdrawal from the Western European market: since January 2017, LADA has been a part of the Renault group, while modern AVTOVAZ models, such as Vesta and XRAY, and in some way LADA 4×4, compete with the low-cost cars Renault and Dacia.
