From January till September Russian car market grew by 45%

According to AEB, in September passenger car and LCV sales in Russia came up to 235,552 cars – that is 26% more than a year ago. During nine months of 2011 car sales in Russia exceeded last year results by 45% and amounted 1,921,282 cars. 

According to AEB, prospects of the market in the last quarter of 2011 remain positive due to the fact that credits are getting more available and the consumer sentiment in Russia is growing. However, the growth rates will be slower than at the beginning of the year. We should remind that AEB adjusted the forecast for 2011 up to 2.45 million passenger cars and LCV.

The leadership in the Russian car market is kept by AvtoVAZ, which increased its sales by 20% up to 443,917 cars, including low-volume Super-Auto and cars, assembled at IzhAvto, from January till September.

The second place and the leadership in the foreign car market belongs to Chevrolet, whose sales grew by 57% up to 126,899 cars during nine months. The third place was taken by Hyundai – the result of this South Korean brand was 114,161 cars (+86%). We should also mention, that 60% of this number belong to the new Solaris model, which was the best selling model in the foreign car market from January till September. A little less result belongs to Kia – 112,310 cars sold (+44%). Renault, which increased its sales by 72% up to 111,720 cars, is on the fifth place now. TOP-10 best selling brands during three quarters of the year also includes Nissan (94,052 cars, +84%), Toyota (85,700 cars, +55%), Ford (82,286 cars, +35%), Volkswagen (78,910 cars, +102%) and Daewoo (71,623 cars, +31%).

We should also mention that only five brands decreased their sales in the growing Russian car market: Bogdan (-1%, 5,989 cars), Chery (-43%, 4,112 cars), TagAZ (-84%, 1,095 cars), as well as premium-class Dodge (-13%, 142 cars) and Chrysler (-53%, 67 cars).

The leader of the TOP-25 best selling models in Russia from January till September is the Lada Kalina, with 109,785 cars sold – that is 49% more than a year ago. A little less result belongs to the Lada Priora – the sales of this model were 107,959 cars (+20%). The third place belongs to the VAZ Classic (the Lada 2104/2107), whose sales decreased by 4% to 95,809 cars. The Lada Samara with 85,656 cars sold (+11%) is on the fourth place. The Hyundai Solaris became the best selling foreign car with 66,378 cars sold. The sales of the Renault Logan came up to 61,834 cars – that is 40% more than a year ago. Then comes the Ford Focus with 56,705 cars (+25%). The Lada 4x4, whose sales grew by 47% up to 44,705 cars, became the best selling SUV in Russia. The Daewoo Nexia is a leading imported car – the sales of this model came up to 41,904 cars (+31%). The tenth place belongs to the Chevrolet Niva with 36,430 cars sold (+52%).
