Will LADA remain in the European market?

AVTOVAZ in the nearest future may stop the delivery of LADA cars to the markets of Germany and Austria, reports the portal Sputnik news, referring to information obtained in the company itself.

In an interview that was given to correspondents of this mass media by the representative of AVTOVAZ in Germany (the company LADA AutomobileGmbH), it says that in the nearest future the Russian manufacturer will reduce significantly or even stop completely the delivery of cars to European countries. In particular, the export of new cars to Germany and Austria should be stopped completely from the middle of this spring. At the same time, for some time LADA cars will be sold there from the warehouse.

We should note that this message came after reviews about the good start of sales of LADA Vesta and Vesta SW, the successful showing of the concept of the updated LADA 4x4 SUV and information that some dealers, for example, in Germany, are experiencing a shortage of LADA cars and they even ready to go after them to the "neighbors" - in such countries as Hungary.

As the newspaper notes, AVTOVAZ intends to adapt export activities in the European region in connection with the tightening of environmental standards (most likely, it concerns the WLTP standard, which was introduced in the European Union on September 1st, 2018). Meanwhile, this information was confirmed at AVTOVAZ for the analytic agency AUTOSTAT.

“In connection with the tightening of environmental standards in European countries, we are adjusting our export activity in this region. There is no doubt that at some point we will have to leave them for some time. Nevertheless, we have plans to create a global model in close cooperation with our partners from the Alliance and return to these markets,” - commented the press service of AvtoVAZ.

As the Sputnik news portal adds, at present time the Russian manufacturer considers the active development in the CIS countries, in particular in Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and also in Latin America and the Middle East to be a priority.

As previously the experts of the analytical agency AUTOSTAT reported, sales of LADA cars in the EU countries for two months of this year amounted to 840 units, by showing an increase of about 5% in compare with the result of January-February of 2018. And it is even less than 0.1% of the total EU market! Therefore, according to experts, the decision of AVTOVAZ looks quite logical.
