Ford Sollers JV has officially confirmed the information about the departure of American brand from the segment of passenger cars in Russia. According to the company's press service, it is planned to complete the production of Ford cars in our country by the end of June. And we are talking about the consistent closure of two car plants Ford Sollers in Naberezhnye Chelny and Vsevolozhsk, as well as an engine plant in Yelabuga.

For its part, the company promises that the obligations for warranty repair and service of passenger cars will be fully supported, and the reduction of staff will take place with the payment of additional compensation.

As previously reported AUTOSTAT, the activities of the joint venture in Russia will now concentrate on the segment of light commercial vehicles. The stake is on the strengthening of positions and increasing sales of Ford Transit, the production of which will continue at the plant in the SEZ "Alabuga" (Tatarstan). For the last three years, Ford Transit sales grew by more than 200%, which allowed the model to become a leader in the segment among foreign brands, written in the release.

“We are on the threshold of a new stage in a long-term partnership with Ford in Russia,” - said Vadim Shvetsov, General Director of “Sollers”. “We are confident that the decision to concentrate the business on the light commercial vehicle segment will allow the joint venture to increase efficiency and lay a solid foundation for the further growth.”

As experts of the analytic agency AUTOSTAT calculated, since 2002 there were produced about 1 million Ford cars in Russia.
