American automaker General Motors will invest $ 300 million in its assembly plant in the suburb of Orion, Michigan for the production of a new electric car Chevrolet. For this, the plant Orion will create 400 new jobs. This statement is a part of GM's commitment to invest $ 1.8 billion in the manufacturing in the United States, by creating 700 new jobs and by supporting 28,000 jobs in six states. Since 2009, GM has invested more than $ 22 billion in its manufacturing operations in the United States, reports the press service of General Motors.

Following its commitment to update model range to electric one in the future, GM is creating a new electric vehicle in addition to the current Chevrolet Bolt EV model. The new model will be designed on the basis of an improved version of Bolt EV. Additional information about the new Chevrolet EV product will be available closer to the start of production.

The decision to assemble a Chevrolet EV in Orion was based, in particular, on the fact that this company is currently producing the Bolt EV model, and the new Chevrolet EV will be based on an improved version of the same vehicle architecture. As it was noted, the transfer of production to the US manufacturer supports the provisions of the rules of origin in the proposed agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada.
