In September the Italian car market decreased again

After the growth in August the Italian car market decreased in September by 5.7% to 146,388 cars. According to ANFIA, the car sales in this country reduced despite the fact that last year in September the decrease in the car market was 18.5%. Thus, the current result remains at the level of early 1996, ANFIA states. During nine months of the current year car sales in Italy decreased by 11.3% to 1,369,545 cars. 

According to ANFIA forecast, the negative dynamics will continue till the end of the year, as a result the Italian car market will reach 1.788 million cars (-8.8%), which is the lowest level in 15 years. Moreover they expect, that the sales decrease will continue at the beginning of the next year, as the number of car orders is still reducing. Thus, in September dealers got 147,000 orders, which is 6.5% less than in September 2010, when the car market was decreasing after abolition of “Eco-bonus”.

According to the information got by AUTOSTAT agency from ANFIA, in September domestic car manufacturers, which have 29.2% of the local market decreased their car sales by 4.2% to 42,783 cars. Foreign car sales reduced even more last month – by 6.3% to 103,605 cars.

The best selling brand in Italy is Fiat, which sold 31,051 cars (-7.5%) in September, which 21.2% of the local market. The second place belongs to Ford with 11,558 cars (- 5%). Volkswagen, which decreased its sales by 1.3% to 10,669 cars, is still on the third place. Then come Opel (10,129 cars; - 0.8%) and Lancia (7,319 cars; + 20.9%).
