    For the last year, 1 million 671.6 thousand new passenger cars were sold in Russia, which is more by 13.3% than in the last year. At the same time, in December of 2018, sales of new cars were 158.3 thousand units, which is more by 3.9% than a year ago. As for crossovers and SUVs, their sales in January-December grew by 18.1% in compare with 2017 and they were 729.2 thousand cars. The segment's share in total sales grew by 1.7 percentage points and reached 43.6%.



Russian car market grew by 1% in January


Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 0.6% in January in Russia and they were 103,064 cars, according to data of the Association of European Businesses.

As it was noted in AEB, the Russian car market exceeded the 100,000 mark in January, by demonstrating a slight increase of 0.6% in compare with the same month of the last year. It is a positive result, especially given the increase in the VAT rate by 2% from January 1st.

Leadership in the Russian car market is kept by AvtoVAZ, which was sold in amount of 21,531 LADA cars in the last month, which is more by 3% than a year ago. KIA took the second place in terms of sales - sales of 15,691 cars (+ 3%) provided the Korean brand with leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai keeps the third place with the indicator of 10,843 sold cars, which is more by 24% in compare with the last year. It is followed by Renault - cars of this brand were chosen by 7799 buyers, which is less by 1% than a year ago. The TOP-five of leaders is closed by Volkswagen, sales of which were 6,200 cars (+ 11%).

The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in January also included Skoda (5536 units, + 23%), Toyota (5320 units, + 3%), Nissan (5003 units, -7%), BMW (2630 units, + 28%) and GAZ (2601 units, + 1%).
