Where do Russians prefer to buy car tires?

In 2018, the Russian car market grew by 13%

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 5.6% in Russia in December and they were 175,240 cars. According to the results of 2018, the Russian car market grew by 12.8% up to 1 million 800 thousand 591 cars, according to the data of the Association of European Businesses.

As it was noted in the AEB, the last year was marked by a 12-month period of continuous growth. The perspective for 2019 is not so clear. The increase in VAT and the possible tightening of US sanctions create significant risks and uncertainties in the market, especially in the first quarter. However, based on the assumption that government policy remains unchanged and automotive sector support remains unchanged, the market participants expect that the demand will be fundamentally stable enough to maintain sales and gain growth during the year. Taking this into account, the AEB forecast for 2019 for the passenger and light commercial vehicles market in Russia was compiled with a slight improvement, namely, 1.87 million units, that is, more by 3.6% than the last year.

Leadership in the Russian car market is kept by AvtoVAZ, which sold 360,204 LADA cars in the last year, which is more by 16% than a year ago. KIA took the second place by sales - sales of 227,578 cars (+ 25%) provided by the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. Hyundai keeps the third place with the indicator of 178,269 sold cars, which is more by 13% compared to the last year. This is followed by Renault - cars of this brand were chosen by 137,062 buyers, which correspond to the level of a year ago. Toyota closes the TOP-five of leaders, sales of which were 108,492 cars (+ 15%).

The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in 2018 also included: Volkswagen (106,056 units, + 19%), Skoda (81,459 units, + 31%), Nissan (80,925 units, + 6%), GAZ (60,677 units, + 4%) and Ford (53234 units, + 6%).
