PSA and Toyota Group expand cooperation in Europe

PSA Group and Toyota Motor Corporation announced the beginning of a new phase of cooperation in the European market. In particular, from the end of 2019, the PSA Group will expand the range of commercial vehicles supplied to Toyota Motor Europe NV / SA (TME) for sales in Europe under the Toyota brand by supplying a TME minivan in the C segment (C-Van) from its factory in Vigo (Spain), noted in the joint statement of companies. Recall that the cooperation of PSA and TME began in 2013 from light commercial vehicles of medium size class. The PSA plant in Horden (France) produced the Toyota Proace minivan.

As it was noted, the goal of partnership developing between PSA and TME is the usage by both companies in the European segment of light commercial vehicles (compact and mid-sized) the advantages based on optimizing development and production costs. Toyota will take on part of the cost of investing in the design and manufacture of future light commercial models.

From January of 2021, Toyota will become a co-owner of the Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile Plant.Czechs.r.o. (TPCA) in Kolín (Czech Republic), which produces compact A-Class 1,2 models.

The TPCA joint venture was established by PSA and TMC in 2002; the agreement includes a revision clause that allows each partner to change the terms of its equity participation. The plant will become a subsidiary of TME, joining seven other Toyota plants already operating in Europe.

The plant in Kolin will continue to produce the current generation of compact A-Class cars for the two companies. In the future, Toyota also intends to continue the production and provide employment to the staff at the Kolin plant.
