World car market fell by 4% in October

The global car market fell by 3.8% to 7 million 727 thousand cars and light commercial vehicles in October. The annual level of sales cleared of seasonality, calculated from the results of the previous month, amounted to 92 million 158 thousand cars. According to the results of ten months of 2018, sales of cars in the world grew by 1.1% to 78 million 825 thousand units, according to the data received by the AUTOSTAT agency in the consulting company LMCAutomotive.

China keeps the world leadership in car sales, where 2 million 371 thousand cars were sold in October (-11%). America remains the second largest global car market with an indicator of 1 million 358 thousand cars (+ 0.5%).

Automotive markets in Western Europe continued to fall - in October by 5.6% to 1 million 184 thousand cars. The decline in demand is associated with the introduction of new rules for WLTP car certification in the European Union on September 1st, which continued to influence the market demand in the last month, although to a lesser extent than a month earlier. Car sales in Eastern Europe were 338.2 thousand units, which is less by 12.6% compared to the last year. It is worth noting that the Russian car market continued to show the growth in October. But in Turkey, sales of new cars fell by 76%, which prompted the local authorities to reduce taxes on cars in November - December.

In South America, local dealers sold 291.2 thousand cars, which is more by 7.3% than in October of the last year. Among the world's largest automotive markets, there is Japan (413.9 thousand units, + 12.4%), Canada (164.8 thousand units, 0%) and South Korea (157.4 thousand units, + 23.4%).
