Russia is the largest market for Lexus in Europe

Russia is the largest market for Lexus in Europe. Vice-president of Lexus in Europe, Andy Pfeiffenberger told during the interview for Motor.Ru, having noticed that the largest share of Lexus sales in Russia belongs to SUVs, in contrast to Europe.

“We sell a lot of SUVs in Russia. LX, GX, RX... Other models are in less demand – 70:30 for SUVs and crossovers, - Andy Pfeiffenberger said. – The situation is antipodal in Western Europe – we sell mostly passenger and hybrid cars there. Their share is almost 90% of our sales”.

According to Andy Pfeiffenberger the West European market is focused on compact cars – such as the Lexus CT 200h hatchback, which has already become the brand’s bestseller in Europe. “Due to the new Lexus CT 200h, which is sold in Europe for less than a year, we have already taken 2-3% of the market in this segment. It is a lot – he says. – For example, the total Lexus share in Europe is only 1.2%”. The company is planning to sell about 10,000 Lexus CT 200h cars in the European market in 2011. The second popular in Europe model is the RX crossover, whose sales are twice less.

According to AEB, from January till August 2011 Lexus sales in the Russian market grew by 44% up to 9,146 cars. According to ACEA, during eight months Lexus increased its sales in Europe by 34.6% up to 16,757 cars – that is due to the fact that the new СТ200h, the most affordable Lexus model, went on sale.
