Electric cars can go on dedicated lanes and toll roads.

Owners of electric vehicles in Russia can get new benefits - access to dedicated lanes and free travel on toll roads. This initiative was made by experts of the Skolkovo Foundation and the national technical initiative Avtonet.

“To stimulate the population to buy electric cars effectively with just such measures,” - explained Kirill Zhanaydarov, the Skolkovo Foundation’s transport infrastructure project manager, “Now there are only about 200 electric vehicles in Moscow, if they are allowed into dedicated lanes, there will be no harm to bus traffic.” Access can be organized with the help of signs regulating the movement of electric vehicles, he says: special signs for them were entered into the traffic rules in 2017.

According to the agency "AUTOSTAT", as of July 1st, 2018, 2.5 thousand cars were registered in Russia, while only Renault Twizzy was officially sold, the rest of the models are imported in a gray way. The most popular electric cars are Nissan Leaf (1,8 thousand units), Mitsubishi i-MieV (294 units), Tesla Model S (202 units).

Managing partner of MoscowTeslaClub Igor Antarov reminds that now parking for electric cars is free in Moscow, besides, in the Moscow and Kaluga regions for the owners of such cars the transport tax has been abolished.

Today, according to the traffic rules, dedicated lines are open only for route transport, school buses and taxis. “We are opposed to any personal cars being allowed on the allocated lanes,” – said the press service of the Moscow Department of Transport. “There are drivers who have enough driving experience and are professionally engaged in the carriage of passengers.” At the same time, the department noted that they are interested in the growth of the parc of electric vehicles. In the state company Avtodor (in charge of toll roads in Russia), the idea of Skolkovo experts was skeptical about toll roads.
